Understanding the System
Good Support Starts With Clear Information
Families don’t struggle because they lack determination. They struggle because the system is complex and no one explains how it works.
PDD and FSCD have structure, limits, and processes. Understanding them means fewer surprises, better decisions, and support that actually works.
This section gives you those tools.
Funding Programs
Find the Resource That Applies to Your Family
PDD - Persons with Developmental Disabilities
For Adults 18+
- Turning 18 shouldn't mean losing the support that makes life possible.
- PDD is Alberta's program funding the services adults with developmental disabilities need to live independently, work, and participate fully in their communities.
- From housing and personal care to employment support and community programs, it's designed to help adults build meaningful lives. Understanding how it works makes all the difference.
FSCD - Family Support for Children with Disabilities
For Children 0-17
- Raising a child with a disability often requires support beyond what most families can provide alone.
- FSCD is Alberta's program that funds services designed to help respite care when you need a break, therapy to build skills, equipment to increase independence, and programs that create connection and growth.
- From early intervention to school-age support, it's built to meet families where they are.
Jordan's Principle
For First Nations Children
- First Nations children deserve the same access to health, education, and social services as every other child in Canada without delays, without barriers, without jurisdictional disputes getting in the way.
- Jordan's Principle is the federal commitment that makes that happen, funding necessary services immediately so children get what they need when they need it.
